Album Review – Cradle of Filth – Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa
Posted by plantera7
The first track I heard from this new Cradle of Filth album was Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned). The track is a little more mainstream sounding and vocally mature for Dani Filth’s singing style. Based on this track I figured CoF was going in a new direction with this album compared to older albums like Midian. I was ready to embrace that, as I do not feel that change is necessarily a bad thing, unless you are Metallica. So when The Cult of Venus Aversa started off my trip to work, I was surprised to hear the standard ferocity which is CoF. The rests of the album pretty much played out the same way. Its dark, heavy, death, and pretty darn good.
Like I said I don’t mind change here and there, but DDVA is a pretty standard CoF metal album and is deserving of the rating for which I am about to give it. If you are an iTunes downloader, the bonus version will get you the video for Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned) and four bonus tracks which ends up giving you 1.4 hours of music, well worth the couple extra dollars to get the bonus version. For current CoF fan, I think you will appreciate this album and find it to be more of a return to roots of 10 years ago. This wouldn’t be a bad start for the new CoF fan, but if you are new to the world of CoF I would start with Midian and go from there.
I give Cradle of Filth – Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa 4 of 5 Devil horns.
