Song of the Week- Green Man

Autumn is now into full swing and my personal favorite months of the year are starting up.  The leaves are changing into various majestic colors, the climate is finally bearable(I hate the heat), Halloween and Thanksgiving is approaching, and the NFL is full effect(J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!).  This week I wanted to select a song that fit with the season, so I present to you “Green Man” by Type-o-Negative off the perfect October album, October Rust. There are a plethora of great autumn sounding songs on October Rust but went with “Green Man” because it’s the most “naturey” sounding song on the record, green is my favorite color, and the idea came to me by a buddy with a very green name…(and the Jets wear green 😉 ).  Hope you all enjoy!!!  RIP Peter Steele.   Peace Love and Metal!!!

What’s all of your favorite albums and/or songs to listen to in the Autumn season?

From Wikipedia:

“A Green Man is a sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves. Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit. Commonly used as a decorative architectural ornament, Green Men are frequently found on carvings in churches and other buildings (both secular and ecclesiastical). “The Green Man” is also a popular name for English public houses and various interpretations of the name appear on inn signs, which sometimes show a full figure rather than just the head.

The Green Man motif has many variations. Found in many cultures around the world, the Green Man is often related to natural vegetative deities springing up in different cultures throughout the ages. Primarily it is interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, or “renaissance,” representing the cycle of growth each spring. Some speculate that the mythology of the Green Man developed independently in the traditions of separate ancient cultures and evolved into the wide variety of examples found throughout history.”

On a side note, now that I have officially watched way too much It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia I can’t listen to this without thinking of Green Man, lol.

Bonus Song

Here’s a fun song by Finnish folk metal band called “Northern Fall” which sings about the arriving of Fall.  Enjoy!!!

  1. Ahh, the autumn season. Pretty before it gets ugly; not hot, but not cold either. I like the fall and some Type O Negative. I am glad I had the chance to see them a few times before Peter Steele passed away. I used to listen to Type O Neg a lot during the Bloody Kisses/October Rust days. That’s a good tune…I think I am going to have to make a Type O Mix for the car.

The Korpiklaani song is fun to listen to.
