This morning while getting ready for work I felt an earthquake for the first time in my life. Don’t worry, it wasn’t strong and Milan and Emila Romangna (where the epicenter of it was) are perfectly safe. I thought that there was just some hardcore construction going on in my apartment building. Everything seemed to wave and I can now really see how a strong earthquake really does mad damage. Anyways, even though this week’s Song of the Week really has nothing to do with earthquakes, it’s been stuck in my head all day. Check out “The Earth Will Shake” by Thrice off of the absolutely amazing album Vheissu.
I’ve seen/heard many interpretations of the meaning behind this song ranging from faults in the prison system to things of more Biblical proportions (“Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.” Isaiah 13:13). When I listen to it I picture the persecution against the Jews during WWII and their longing for freedom while being deprived of their everything in the concentration camps and my mental music video shows them rising up and finding freedom. Of course it could be brought to current events and be about what is going on in the Middle East or Africa. Any which way, to me it’s about persecution, which is horrible and should not be suffered by anyone. What’s your take on the song? Enjoy!! Peace Love and Metal!!
